Welcome to the second blog of this series where we will look at the first few question set out in the previous blog. If you haven’t already read it find it here.
There are quite a few factors to consider when setting a target, but luckily on WhatWeWant, unlike many other crowdfunding platforms you are able to withdraw your funds even if you don't hit your target. We believe that every little bit helps no matter how big or small; every contribution, moves you closer to your goal. But it's essential to set a realistic target to build credibility with people looking to contribute, they are less likely to give if the target seems unachievable.
You should base your target on three factors:
- Cost: How much would it take to achieve your goal?
- Audience size: How big is your outreach?
- Timeframe: Do you have a deadline?
In this blog we will start with working out how much it would take for you to reach your target.
Cost: How much would it take to achieve your goal?
The easy answer is how much does it cost to buy what you need, but one of the main reasons people do not complete purchases are due to added/unforeseen costs. When starting a campaign you should add these costs to your target, this could be delivery fees, import taxes or even marketing costs for the campaign you are running.
In most cases people are more likely to give when you are transparent about what your goal is and what you are aiming for. Your contributors want to know exactly where their money is going.
Lastly you may already have money saved on the side, you can also add this to your campaign as a first contribution.
What makes WhatWeWant different is that you can “withdraw as you go”, allowing you to partially take out what you have collected, so you can spend your contributions even before you have hit target date or amount. If you would like to do this get in contact with us and ask us how much you want to withdraw. This means that your crowdfund can remain live and you won’t need to close the campaign. As mentioned another unique feature is that you don’t need to hit your target, so when you feel that you have run out of steam you still get rewarded for your hard work.
